The Envious Siblings

the project

I was the marketer for Landis Blair’s The Envious Siblings, a graphic novel of morbid nursery rhymes. I also designed several different graphics for this book’s promotion— all with a humorous, quirky style to reflect the book’s morbid and hilarious branding.

MARKETING STRATEGIES

Because Landis has a bigger social media following than the Norton account, I worked with Landis on a social media posting schedule, which started five months before on-sale date and continued for several weeks afterwards. This posting schedule addressed best timing practices for book announcements and reminders to his fans, as well as suggested subjects that would entice and engage his following.

At the same time, I was working from the publisher’s side to ensure the book’s discoverability by checking the book’s metadata and updating the book’s—and author’s—online presence (on Amazon.com, Wikipedia, Goodreads, etc.). I designed ads for the book that appeared on Literary Hub, and I animated a short video promo for the book that we posted on Halloween, a holiday that reflected the book’s macabre styling.

I also devised a fun twitter thread campaign that invited followers to guess the ending of the morbid rhyme. Norton’s account, despite its large following, has relatively minimal engagement. This twitter thread successfully had several guessers – including one very enthusiastic follower who managed to guess all the rhymes correctly and asked for more.

end result

Landis was very happy with our efforts, and the book has an average rating of five-stars on Amazon and a 3.94 star rating on Goodreads.
